Freelance Photographers & Videographers - Join Our Storytelling Team Across the South & Midwest

Location: Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia, Missouri, Oklahoma, Arkansas (Remote/Travel-based)

If you're a creative, reliable photographer or videographer with a passion for storytelling, this contract role is a perfect opportunity for you. Help us visually represent the communities of Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Arkansas for print, web, and social platforms.

What You'll Do:

• Capture high-quality photos and/or video at community events, festivals, interviews, and feature shoots.

• Deliver edited images or footage on deadline, including some same-day coverage when needed.

• Collaborate with our editorial, marketing, and content teams to visually represent stories that resonate with readers.

• Assist in building our visual brand across print publications, websites, and social media platforms.

• Travel occasionally within assigned areas (mileage reimbursement available).

We’re Looking For:

• Proven experience in photography, videography, or content creation (portfolio required).

• Your own professional equipment (camera, lenses, lighting, etc.), although we provide a full photography studio with cameras, rigs, lights, backdrops, and props as needed.

• Strong visual storytelling skills and a good eye for composition.

• Reliable transportation and ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends when necessary.

• A passion for capturing authentic community moments and a deep understanding of visual communication.

• Familiarity with community journalism or documentary-style work is a plus.

• Ability to work respectfully and professionally around public figures, elected officials, and celebrities, maintaining discretion and composure.

Bonus If You:

• Can edit short-form video for social media or YouTube.

• Are comfortable capturing b-roll and sound bites.

• Are local to one of our coverage areas or willing to travel within the region.
