Payroll Accountant

The Payroll Accountant is a key member of the accounting department responsible for managing and overseeing the organization’s payroll processes. This role ensures that employees are paid accurately and timely while complying with all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as company policies. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of accounting principles, payroll systems, and tax regulations, and will demonstrate excellent analytical and organizational skills.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS / DUTIES:
Payroll Processing

  • Administer and process payroll for all employees, ensuring accuracy and adherence to deadlines.
  • Process journal entries weekly related to payroll and benefits.
  • Process employee expense reimbursements weekly in payroll system.
  • Reporting - Prepare and submit payroll related reports monthly, quarterly, and year-end reports. Submit 401k files weekly & process related journal entries.
  • Reconciliation - Perform balance sheet account reconciliations and resolve any discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Reconcile and monitor vacation, sick and earned time in payroll system & calculate monthly accruals.
  • Records Management - Maintain accurate payroll records and ensure confidentiality of payroll information.
  • Audit Support - Assist with internal and external audits by providing supporting documentation and information as needed.
  • Employee Support: Address employee inquiries related to payroll, benefits, and deductions, providing accurate and timely responses.
  • Policy & Systems Development: Assist in the development and implementation of payroll policies, procedures and systems to improve efficiency and compliance.
  • Other task as assigned, maintain scanned documentation.
  • Physical inventory support.
  • Function as dedicated back up for other team members when needed.


QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent, in combination with one of the following: Bachelor’s degree in related discipline and (1) plus years’ experience in related field Associate degree in related discipline and two (2) plus years’ experience in related field Non-Degreed with three (3) plus years’ experience in a related field.
  • Software Must be comfortable utilizing Microsoft products.
  • Excel proficiency is a must.
  • ADP Workforce Manager and Workforce Now experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency in particular job content Have strong communication, administrative and organizational skills, and the ability to coordinate multiple projects and programs.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Strong problem solving and visualization skills.
