Membership Manager
The Cookeville-Putnam County Chamber of Commerce is seeking a dynamic and organized professional to serve as Membership Manager. This position plays a key role in supporting and engaging our business community through strategic marketing, event execution, membership development, and partnership coordination. The ideal candidate is relationship driven, detail oriented, and passionate about strengthening the local business environment. Occasional early mornings and evenings required.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES
This position plays an integral role in advancing the Chamber’s mission to support a vibrant local economy through networking opportunities, education, advocacy, and strategic partnerships. The Membership Manager assists with event coordination and promotion, oversees marketing and communications, supports membership growth and retention, and manages key engagement programs including Ribbon Cuttings and the Adopt-A-School program. This role is essential in strengthening member engagement and enhancing the Chamber’s visibility within the business community. Duties include:
Event Management and Logistics
- Assists Membership Director in coordinating Chamber events from planning through execution.
- Oversees full event setup and breakdown including signage, registration, presentations, and branded materials. Manages onsite logistics including timing, audiovisual support, and volunteer coordination.
- Collects Ribbon Cutting applications and schedules events in partnership with member businesses, creates event pages, and distributes calendar invitations to targeted audiences.
- Maintains inventory of ribbons, beverages, event supplies, signage, and other event set-up materials.
- Keeps up-to-date contact lists for Ribbon Cutting and Adopt-A-School invitations.
Marketing and Communications
- Assists in developing marketing and promotional strategies for Chamber programs, events, and membership initiatives across digital and traditional platforms.
- Creates all digital and print marketing materials including graphics, flyers, signage, banners, presentations, and branded assets.
- Manages all Chamber communication channels including social media, website content, event listings, and email marketing.
- Develops and distributes the monthly newsletter, weekly email communications, and press releases for Ribbon Cuttings, Adopt-A-School ceremonies, and other Chamber activities.
- Creates presentations and assists in drafting talking points and scripts for events and speaking engagements.
- Monitors and analyzes social media and email marketing performance metrics to evaluate effectiveness and audience engagement.
Adopt-A-School Program Administration
- Manages administrative and partnership functions of the Adopt-A-School program.
- Promotes the open enrollment period through targeted marketing efforts.
- Collects and processes applications, facilitates communications with Putnam County School System (PCSS) administration, and coordinates school adoption events. This includes scheduling and communicating with school leadership, PCSS members, businesses, speakers, elected officials, and Chamber representatives.
- Maintains accurate and up-to-date records of participating businesses and schools.
Membership Growth and Engagement
- Recruits new Chamber memberships and recommends appropriate membership tiers based on business needs.
- Conducts or assists with monthly member check-in calls to strengthen relationships and identify opportunities for engagement.
- Manages the Monthly Membership Spotlight including selecting featured members, coordinating interviews, and developing promotional content.
- Assists with managing member event postings and job listings on the Chamber website.
- Assists in administration of the Chamber Ambassador program including meeting materials, point tracking, and group communications.
- Engages and educates the business community about the Chamber’s mission, programs, and benefits to enhance overall member value.
REQUIRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
- Proven customer service and relationship management skills with experience working in a professional business environment.
- Strong B2B sales with the ability to communicate value and close sales.
- Demonstrated experience in event coordination and onsite event management.
- Experience developing and executing marketing strategies across multiple platforms including social media, email marketing, print, and digital advertising.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to draft newsletters, press releases, scripts, and professional correspondence.
- Experience managing social media accounts and analyzing engagement metrics to ensure content effectiveness.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and events simultaneously.
- Knowledge of the Putnam County and Upper Cumberland business community.
- Ability to work extended hours as needed to support Chamber events and activities.
- Proficiency using Windows systems, MS Office Suite, Canva, WordPress, email marketing platforms, and social media management tools.
- A team player with strong work ethic, initiative, and a positive attitude.
Preferred Background, Experience & Qualifications:
- Experience in nonprofit, association, or Chamber of Commerce environments.
- Proficiency with CRM platforms and database management.
- Background in marketing, communications, public relations, or business development.
- Event planning and promotion experience.
- Member relationship management and retention strategy experience.
- Public speaking or presentation experience.
